Information

Ty Afon is a calm, quiet learning environment for learners who find busy or noisy environments overwhelming. Our ethos is to provide bespoke, intervention placements for learners who may not be able to attend their mainstream provision currently due to social, emotional or mental health difficulties. Our campus is in a converted house with a “homely” feel to ensure learners feel safe and secure during the school day. Our campus has a main classroom and kitchen area downstairs with an additional classroom and wellbeing room upstairs. In addition, our campus has an enclosed garden area for learners to relax or complete work outdoors (if the Welsh weather allows!).

Our team of key adults work closely with learners to provide wellbeing and emotional support whilst delivering a balanced and nurturing curriculum. Our curriculum covers all areas of learning experience as well as accredited qualifications for older learners including GCSE and BTEC qualifications. In addition, our wellbeing afternoons and exercise sessions in the local community provide life experiences to develop confidence, self-esteem and social skills. Each learner has specific education plans in place that are regularly reviewed to ensure progress. Our staff liaise with parents, carers and agencies to provide a balanced support package to suit each learners individual needs.

At Ty Afon, we work closely with mainstream schools to regularly review the progress and development of each learner. This ensures that learners can return to their mainstream environment when they are ready and with the support of Ty Afon staff to ensure a successful reintegration. This process is learner led and progress in resilience, self-esteem and confidence are all considered as part of a reintegration process.
