Intervention team

Hi!

We’re Miss Middleton and Mr Osmond.

We cover all aspects of wellbeing and intervention here at the Primary Campus at the River Centre. We provide a safe space for pupils to come and have some key wellbeing time to assist with their learning development here at the River Centre. In our intervention room we have access to a range of wellbeing and emotion activities. We have easy access to our library for all literacy intervention needs. We also thrive on developing our pupils through the medium of therapeutic approaches to teaching. These include therapeutic stories, puppet play, Lego therapy and sensory stimulation. We cover all aspects of wellbeing for whenever our pupils need some time out of class to assist in self regulation.

We also cover all aspects of assessments in the intervention room – with Mr Osmond covering CAT, PASS, Reading, Spelling and Numeracy assessments three times a year to ensure we are able to identify additional needs. The intervention team will develop a bespoke calendar for pupils to undertake literacy and numeracy intervention.

The intervention team also are fully trained in ELSA, POPAT, Circle of Security, Time to Talk, Comic Strip, Lego Therapy, Catch Up Literacy and Catch-up Numeracy. These sessions are incorporated into the timetable of the team.

On a Monday morning, the intervention team take pupils for a wellbeing walk either to Cytharftha Castle or Bryn Bach Park, followed by some wellbeing time with staff and pupils. This is a great chance for pupils to self-regulate, bond with pupils outside their class and integrate into the local community. The intervention team are on hand throughout the day to assist pupils in regulating. We often take pupils on a drive, for a soft drink at a nearby café or for wellbeing time out of the classroom. This time outside allows the pupils to learn key skills to aid them in their development throughout school, as well as adhering to Welsh curriculum and covering their wellbeing needs.

We also cover animal therapy within our sessions and have just became the parents of two African Land Snails, a brilliant technique in assisting our pupils to regulate.

As an intervention team we work in line with teachers, TA’s, parents/carers and third-party organisations to ensure development of pupils. We aim for our pupils to develop their emotional literacy, have a greater understanding of their emotions, learn to explain their thoughts and feelings, provide strategies to help for further development. But most importantly, we enable our pupils to have a safe space with two trusted adults and a place to have FUN!
