Dosbarth Porffor

My name is Mrs Simmonds and I am the class teacher for Dosbarth Porffor. Miss Jarman is our teaching assistant and we work together to provide a well rounded education for the six pupils in our class.

Our aim is to create a welcoming learning environment, built on respect for ourselves and each other. The Curriculum Cymreig is at the center of our teaching and learning, with our focus being on nurturing strong, capable and independent young people, who have a desire to learn and grow. This is achieved with the use of an individual approach to each of the children's learning needs and an appropriately differentiated curriculum.

Each day includes a Numeracy challenge, a Literacy task and an opportunity for self expression through multi skills, including art, pottery, collage, design and photography...

We recognise the importance of reading and the joy that books can bring and each afternoon begins with a story, by great children's authors such as Roald Dahl, Hannah Gold or David Walliams.

The use of incidental Welsh is encouraged and pupils learn about Welsh traditions and cultures, as well as creating impressive art work for the Urdd Eisteddfod.

Outside of the classroom we enjoy swimming lessons on a Monday and an outdoor educational trip to Brynbach Park mid week. Some of our favourite activities are climbing, go-karting, walking, raft building and even bush craft.

Dosbarth Porffor is a lively and enthusiastic class and our aim is to channel these qualities into positive actions.
